Who are COLOMBIA EXPATS?

We are Nick, Sam and Goose (and now Mona), and we moved to Medellin, Colombia from the United States…permanently. We started documenting our journey settling into life here in Medellin in January of this year, and we realized we loved doing 3 things: DOCUMENTING our life, HELPING others with giving all the tips we have learned and know, and CREATING a community full of incredible like-minded people.

So we are doing just that. We have multiple social media platforms to help us share our life, we continue to create blogs and other materials for people to help answer some common questions, and we are expanding our beautiful community through interaction/events and so much. Hola 👋 ! We are Nick and Sam and we are a 30 something year old couple from the United States who now lives permanently in Medellin, Colombia 🇨🇴 with our US dog Goose 🐕‍🦺 and our paisa puppy Mona 🐕‍🦺. Let me tell you a little about us! We have been together for almost 12 years and first met in High School Spanish class when we were just 15 years old. We are from California. We did long distance for the first two years of our life, Sam was getting her masters in Dublin, Ireland 🇮🇪 and Nick was in Culinary School in Florence, Italy 🇮🇹. After our first two years apart, we decided to move to New York City, where we lived for the nearly 10 years. This is where Colombia comes in 🇨🇴. In 2017, we got married in Jamaica 🇯🇲 and decided to spend our two week honeymoon exploring a country we had both wanted to visit for many years…Colombia 🇨🇴. We visited Bogotá and Cartagena and we completely fell in love with this beautiful country. So just a couple years later, we made our way back and visited a new city, Medellin. Within 5 minutes, we were completely sold on this city. Over the course of 2 years, we came to Medellin as much as we could. Long weekends, vacations, any chance we could come. Until we decided…let’s buy an apartment and move there permanently. So we did just that. We bought our apartment in August 2022 and moved here permanently with our dog from the US in November 2023. To say this decision to move here was the best decision of our life is an understatement. We love this country and we feel so blessed to be here, immersing ourselves in the traditions, language, and culture every single day. Writing this makes me emotional. I can’t believe we are here. I’m so proud of us for following our dreams to come here. I’m so excited for what’s to come. And so much of our journey so far has been because of YOU! I can’t wait to continue this journey with you!
