Who are COLOMBIA EXPATS?

We are Nick, Sam and Goose (and now Mona), and we moved to Medellin, Colombia from the United States…permanently. We started documenting our journey settling into life here in Medellin in January of this year, and we realized we loved doing 3 things: DOCUMENTING our life, HELPING others with giving all the tips we have learned and know, and CREATING a community full of incredible like-minded people.

So we are doing just that. We have multiple social media platforms to help us share our life, we continue to create blogs and other materials for people to help answer some common questions, and we are expanding our beautiful community through interaction/events and so much. I can’t believe it took me this long living in Medellin to visit Parque Arví 💚🤩🇨🇴 Honestly, the park absolutely blew me away! I knew I was going to enjoy it because everyone always does, but my expectations were FAR exceeded! I think of the main reasons why is that you get all this incredible beauty in Parque Arví and it’s only a public transportation away from Medellin city! Life is busy… Doesn’t it feel like you blink and it’s already the end of the year somehow? Does that feel the case even more when life is busy? When we lived in NYC, we were living one day to another. Every year felt like it flew by. What did I accomplish? Did I enjoy that year? Did I do things to make me fulfilled? I asked myself every year, how is it already almost Christmas? And yet, time still came and it quickly went. After moving to Medellin, I can’t say that time has slowed down, but I can say that I have taken time to slow myself down. To live in a life that is more present. The days go quickly, but I can remember everything I did. I take time to reflect. I take time to breathe. I’m still learning how to do this after so many years of not doing it. Colombia is teaching me this. Colombians embrace moments. Colombians embrace family time. Colombians take time to reflect. Colombians enjoy the morning coffee. Days go by, and Colombians work so hard AND they learn to be present so that the day is not forgotten. These cultural traits are beautiful and something I strive to adopt in my life. These are the lessons I am learning from Colombia. I have a long way to go, but right now, I write this from a beautiful finca, taking deep breaths in the fresh air, sipping my tinto, reflecting. Something I’m not sure I would have done easily in NYC. Taking time to do these things is hard for me to do. But these are the first steps and I feel so grateful to be surrounded by the beauty here, and the warm people who are so encouraging, so loving.
