The WHY:

01 — Because we love Medellín and we love Colombia.

We visited Colombia for the first time in April 2017, on our honeymoon. We traveled to Bogotá and Cartegena on this two week trip and absolutely, completely fell in love. It was our first time to South America and we just knew we were going to love it. We even said way back then, “we should live here.” Fast forward to December 2021, our first trip to Medellín, Colombia. We knew the moment we saw the views from the airport that we were going to end up in Medellín. 1.5 years later…we bought our house.

02 — Because we were the first people in our network to buy abroad, and didn’t know where or how to start.

We knew we wanted to buy abroad and we had a lot of places we were looking at before we made our decision. But it was all scary. We didn’t know anyone who had bought a house abroad, who had sent their entire lifesavings to a different country and continent, who knew how to buy property and furnish it in a language we did not know well. We were the first from our groups, but we certainly do not want to be the last…so we will give you all our tips and tricks to purchase property abroad.

03 — Because we couldn’t find much information about the process of buying property in Colombia.

We took a chance. There was really nothing out there about how to buy property in Colombia so we figured it all out along the way. We did the work so that you don’t have to.

04 — Because we want to help promote the true picture of Colombia (not what you see on TV).

When we first said we were going to Colombia, everyone was VERY nervous. The stereotypes, the poor depiction on TV, the history (emphasis in history), the way we were taught to fear so much of Latin America in the US. We weren’t nervous, we were excited to explore a part of the world we hadn’t seen. And we are SO glad we didn’t listen to anyone, because Colombia excedes any and all expectations and is one of the most beautiful and special places in the world. So we want to show the true picture of what it is like to live and breathe South American life.

We are Nick, Sam, & Goose.

Let us tell you a little about us. We we are an American couple from California. We’ve been together for 10+ years and have been traveling all over the world since the beginning of our relationship. In fact, you can event watch some of our travels over the years on our Travel YouTube Channel called SimpsOn The Go. But let’s take you back briefly.

We have been expats before…a couple of times.

We both lived in Europe for over a year in 2014. Nick went to culinary school in Florence, Italy and Sam went to Trinity College Dublin in Dublin, Ireland. Sam also spent a lot of her college years in France, Angers (Loire Valley) and Paris.

We have been Travel Content Creators since 2019.

We started a travel YouTube channel back in 2019 when we quit our jobs to travel the world. It’s a long story, but you can imagine our travels came to an end in 2020, but then we picked them back up at the beginning of January 2023.

We lived in NYC for the better part of 10 years.

We originally were going to buy a very small apartment in NYC, and then we started looking at homes in Medellin, and realized we could get what we really wanted, living in another city we love so much.

We met in Spanish class in High School.

Yep, neither of us actually kept going with Spanish, so we both only formally have taken up until Spanish 2, 15 years ago! Sam did pursue French, so she is proficient in French and so Spanish is easier for her. But we are both currently in intensive Spanish classes so we can integrate into the culture here even more.
