Introduction: Discovering Jardin

Welcome to your ultimate guide to creating a memorable journey through Jardin, a picturesque town nestled in the heart of Colombia's Andean mountains. Known for its lush landscapes, vibrant architecture and rich coffee culture, Jardin is a paradise waiting to be explored. Whether you're an avid adventurer or a cultural enthusiast, this Jardin itinerary is packed with things to do and places to go and ensures an unforgettable experience.

Getting to Jardin: A Traveler's Guide

Understanding how to get to Jardin is the first step to kickstarting your adventure. Tucked away from bustling cities, Jardin is accessible by bus or car from Medellin. My recommendation would be to rent a car and enjoy the beautiful drive out there! The journey offers breathtaking views of the Andes, making every moment an experience in itself. Ensure to check the latest travel schedules and routes for a smooth trip.

Day 1: Immersing in the Culture and Café Scene

Jardin Itinerary - what to do

Morning: Town Square & Cafe Jardin

Begin your day at the heart of Jardin, the vibrant Town Square. Surrounded by colonial buildings in every hue, the square is not just a feast for the eyes but also a cultural hotspot where locals gather, creating a lively atmosphere. Just a stone's throw away is Cafe Jardin, a must-visit for coffee lovers. Whether you are staying at an eco lodge up there or want to do “the loop,” this is a good way to get perspective of the area with a good cup of coffee and an incredible view. Enjoy a freshly brewed cup while learning about Colombia's renowned coffee-making process.

Afternoon: Cristo Rey and Local Eats

No Jardin itinerary would be complete without visiting the iconic Cristo Rey statue. A short hike up offers panoramic views of the town and its splendid surroundings. Afterward, indulge in local cuisine at one of the many charming restaurants around the town, savoring flavors that only Jardin can offer. If you aren’t up for the walk to Cafe Jardin or Cristo Rey, there are tuk-tuk’s readily available to take you up there!

Jardin Colombia - where to stay

Evening: Relaxing in Eco Lodge Accommodations

Cap off your day by staying in one of Jardin's eco-lodge accommodations. Nestled amidst nature, these lodges offer a serene escape, allowing you to unwind and reflect on the day's adventures. We recommend staying at Gulupa Eco-Lodge! Gulupa also offers some exhilarating adventures to make most of your time there!

We had an amazing experience there and it is right above Cafe Jardin, so you can get those views all day and night!

Day 2: Explore the Less Explored in Jardin

Jardin Colombia - what to do

Morning-2: Waterfall Hike

Start your second day with a good sweat to a serene waterfall. This is more of a walk than a hike, but opposite way of Cafe Jardin is a glorious escape to another part of the town. Jardin's landscape is adorned with numerous waterfalls, each promising a unique adventure and breathtaking views. The hike not only provides a chance to immerse in nature but also to capture unforgettable moments. Grab a coffee in the center plaza and start your walk out to the an enchanting waterfall. Just keep following the trail and you run right into it. It isn’t hard to find and you will probably see other people walking to it!

Pro tip: bring plenty of water because it can get quite hot in Jardin and there isn’t much shade on this trail.

Jardin Colombia - what to do

Afternoon-2: Bird Sanctuary Visit

In the afternoon, visit the local bird sanctuary, called “Reserva Natural Jardin de Rocas.” It has a fee of 15.000 COP ($3.85 USD) to enter, but worth every cent. A testament to Colombia's rich biodiversity. Jardin is home to a plethora of bird species, making it a haven for bird watchers and nature lovers alike. The sanctuary's guided tours provide insightful knowledge about the area's ecosystem and conservation efforts. The flowers and plants within the sanctuary are worth the money itself!

Pro tip: if you want to see the famous Andean cock-of-the-rock (pictured here) then you will want to be at the sanctuary by 4pm and they stay there until about 6pm. They are loud and beautiful and you will see many nature photographers there!

Jardin Colombia - what to do

Afternoon 2.1: Garrucha Cable Car ( Teleférico la Garrucha)

What might look like the sketchiest or most unstable cable car you have ever seen, this is a must-do while you are in Jardin. I can in fact live to tell the tale of the stability it holds. A bit nerve racking at first, and once you are in it, all you are thinking about is the view you get to witness. Looks are deceiving, and especially with this short cable car ride. The ride is quick but beautiful. There is a restaurant and a look out on the other side and it is well worth the 10.000 COP ($2.50 USD) round trip ride.

Evening-2: Enjoying the Night in Jardin

As the night falls, Jardin transforms yet again. The town square, lit with soft lights, offers a magical setting. Enjoy the cool evening breeze, the sound of traditional music and perhaps even engage in local festivities. It's the perfect way to feel connected to this Colombian gem.

Conclusion: Your Unforgettable Jardin Itinerary

Your journey through Jardin is bound to be an enriching experience, blending adventure with culture and nature. From the charming cafes and breathtaking hikes to the immersive cultural experiences, every moment in Jardin is a step into the heart of Colombia. Remember to respect the local customs and ecosystems, ensuring that this paradise remains untouched for generations to come.
